General preparation for seeds and plug plants
For growing in the ground - fork over the soil to loosen it, firm the surface lightly and then use a rake to give a level crumbly surface. For growing in containers - put some stones or broken flower pot in the base (this helps with drainage) and fill with good compost up to about 3-5cm (1-2in) from the top. A large container about the size of a bucket is best.
